Macs are the best to for wireless connection faster than PC's. The Macbook has the connection on the top right corner menu you. Scroll on it and you will See it. If you click it will give you the wireless connections that are in the area. If you wont a wireless home connection you can go to apple.com and get their router it is awesome and very fast.

Macbooks have built in wireless, yes. It should be able to connect to any type of router, though an Airport Extreme router would be one of the simpler choices for a Mac user.

(Edit) This is assuming he has some type of broadband (cable/DSL/phone company fiber) or will be getting one of those broadband services.

Yes you must have a rounter first if you want wireless. You can buy an Apple router but it is much more expensive than it needs to be. I bought mine at Wal-Mart for $29 or $39 dollars. More expensive ones have a stronger signal and work further away from the house. It was belkin brand and it worked with my macbook without any problem.
