Are Satellite/Tivo/Apple Tv download speeds dependent on home network?
I currently have DishTV with VIP722 DVR. I noticed that movie rental download speed is similar to the old dialup speeds. Painfully slow to the point, the movie never gets downloaded. I can only assume it's because I have Basic DSL from ATT. Let me emphasize that this only happens when using DishTv's movie rental from their "Broadband" menu option. It only works if you connect the receiver to your home network.
Here's my specific question: Is DishTV, Tivo, Apple TV and others who offer optional internet movie access, fully dependent on a users ISP home network? If so, does this mean I'd have to order the ISP's (whether DSL or Cable Broadband) fastest download pkg in order take advantage of these optional services? I'd like to take advantage of the upcoming GoogleTV or would consider even switching to cable in order to use Tivo Premium, but what's the point if your forced to pay more $ for a higher tier of internet speed. Thanks!
