Default problems connection mac book pro to wireless router?

I recently bought a RANGEMAX NEXT WIRELESS-N ROUTER made by NetGear and have been having a HORRIBLE time connecting to the internet. There are two mac book pro's trying to connect to this router and everytime we try and connect it says it wont.

Previously I had a Linksy's system in my home and had to have a professional set up my network because I could either not connect or it would connect and lose connection. Once the professional came in I could connect all the time fine, but I recently decided to upgrade to a newer router and have been experiencing the same problems.

I have called NetGear and they all have told me they don't cater to Mac's and don't really have a solution for me.

I personally don't know how to get it to stay connected. Every time I want to regain connectivity after closing my laptop screen I need to restart my computer just to regain service. As one might guess this is quite a nuisance.

I need help please!
