Problems with starting up an iMac?
Please note that the following is a friends problem in 1st person for better accuracy.
Recently, I got a new MacBook Pro with OS X 10.6 Snow Leopard. I already had a iMac G5, in which I believe was version 10.5 (though it may have been 10.4) which I got 2 or 3 years ago. I moved the iMac to another room in my office and placed the MacBook Pro where the iMac was before. After some days, I plugged in the iMac (Keyboard, Mouse, Power Cord), and attempted to start it up. After pressing the startup button, the computer made the general noises of starting up (the usual whirring and beeping, not the welcome sounds), but the monitor remained black and shut off (note that the computer is all in one piece). After about 3 seconds of thinking sounds, it remained silent. Then, if you wait around 20 seconds or so, the fan in the back spontaneously starts up and continues to run very loudly until you shut down the computer by holding the power button down or unplugging the computer. I have tried things like Zapping the PRAM and inserting the operating disc, but the CD/DVD slot refuses everything.
Please excuse the fact that my friend did not provide many variables to form a solution.
Thanks!
