Default Boot Snow Leopard with iMac running Lion?

Hello,

I have an iMac (I'm pretty sure it was the first version of the metal/silver look (2006/07?)

It came with Leopard.
I ran Snow Leopard fine on it.
I upgraded to Lion and everything is working fine.
I have an external hard drive that is a Mac edition so it comes up just like a flash drive. How can I install Snow leopard onto the hard drive so that I can boot from it and use Snow Leopard whenever I want to?
Will this cause any problems?

When I open the snow leopard install disc on my mac, it says can't install running lion.

Any help will be greatly appreciated.

Thanks
Thanks for all of the answers.

The reason I wanted to run Snow Leopard is because there are a few programs I used to use that don't seem to work with Lion.

There were a lot of other small things in Lion that bugged me but I have gotten used to most of them now. I just wanted to be able to use both whenever I needed to.
