Should I give the Craigslist seller his Macbook Pro back if he threatens me?
Okay guys, I am in a sticky situation.
I met a craigslist seller to buy his Macbook Pro not to long ago, and his listing was for a seventeen inch, but when I got there and saw it, it was only a fifteen inch. So I told him that I would only buy it for less. He seemed hesitant to lower the price lower than it really was, but he eventually lowered it to a price I would pay for it, which is actually very low for the the specs of the laptop. So I paid him that money and I went on with my day.
I got home that night and I had an email from him saying that he wanted to give me my money back for the laptop because he thinks he can get more money for it. I politely and professionally replied "I understand your concern, but I need this Macbook and I bought it at the price you offered; so I am sorry but I cannot give you the Macbook Back." His response was that "he cannot accept that and he will take extra steps to get it if he needs to" in a threatening way.
He lives in the ghetto part of the city and I am worried that he will be affiliated with some type of gang of some sorts.
I am actually incredibly computer friendly and I have removed almost every piece of information on the internet that would be possible to find me with, to keep him from being able to find me. But I did mention where I work to him and the general location in which I live and go to school (college).
I need your help everyone! Do you think I should keep the Macbook Pro or give it back for my money back? I really need the Mac but I do think my safety is more important.
Side note- can any of you answer this question for me as well, if something does happen, how would be the best way to make sure I can get him behind bars? Or at least press charges?
THANK YOU!!!
PS - I do not know where he lives, but I do know a great deal about him thanks to google. He is a rap artist and he has somewhat of a following. I could figure out where he lives if I really tried.
I also forgot to add that I responded to his email stating that I will not work with him if he is going to threaten me. I also stated that I will return the item to him as long as he meets me in a public place of my choice, at noon, and with the total amount of money that I paid for it; i really only wrote this out of fear.
Do you think it is unreasonable of me to go back against my statement and say I would like to keep the Mac after all?
