Default Does a new Macbook Pro not support Windows XP?

Just bought a 13" macbook pro today after my PC died. Tried to install Windows XP via Boot Camp and it just sits at a black screen that says "setup is determining your hardware configuration" or some such.

Then I was reading online that Win XP might not work on the new Macbook Pros?

Please tell me that's not true because if so, I am returning this laptop first thing in the a.m. The "genius" assured me it was compatible. Lost a whole day of work to this, and after leaving the Apple store, found out the salesman charged me $250 for Apple Care when I said I didn't want it and also charged me $99 for One-on-One support(??), which he'd told me at the time of the sale that he was throwing in for free and made it sound like a bonus "And just for you I'll..." Aargh

Thanks for your help!! :-)
