Default Macbook Pro Shutdown Issues?

I've had my macbook for a little over a year now, and have not have a single issue with it minus needing to replace my charger about 6 months in. However today it shut down on me randomly, while it was in sleep mode. When I rebooted, my charger stopped working, it cut me off from the internet, and when it rebooted it said the date was 2000. Now every time I've put it to sleep since, it has once again shut down, and I needed to reboot. The same thing then happened with the internet and date. It has only once totally shut down while I was actually using it, besides that its only happened in sleep mode. I was just wondering what the problem might be to cause it to shut down, and for my power cord to suddenly stop working. I've noticed when it does shut down the fan is rather loud, causing me to think it might be overheating, but would that blow out my charger? If so, how do I go about correcting this issue? Any insight would be great.
