Default macbook pro wont boot, stop sign appears! help!!?

so i dont know what happened. i was playing games on my mac, then there was low battery, so i turned it off. then that afternoon, i turned it on, so the white screen appeared, then the apple, but after a while the apple turned into a stop sign! whats going on? i really need my mac it has all my work! ive plugged it in, and then it automatically turns on, but it doesnt go past the white screen and the stop sign. i decided to let it rest and just charging, but that doesnt work either! i made an appointment with the apple store for tomorow, but does anyone know what i could do meanwhile?
thanks!

Due to sudden shut down, some of the important system files may have got corrupted which is not allowing to boot the Mac.
Try to start system with installation DVD which came with your Mac. You Mac is not much older so it would be under Apple's warranty. Just wait for the Apple guys to inspect your system. Although, just for your knowledge that data can be recovered from corrupt hard disk through a data recovery software.
