This is a jail-broken and unlocked 3GS that I'm trying to use on the AT&T network. I have used the same sim card in phones using Windows OS 7, 6.5.5, Android 2.1, and 2.2, and an iPhone 3G with OS 4.2.1 and 4.3.5. With my AT&T sim this phone will do every thing except identify my network. When I got my 3G it worked fine until the upgrade to 4.3.5 then I lost data and MMS. Did a custom VPN using unlockit.co.nz and it was fixed. When I got this phone I have no idea what OS or BB versions it was using, but it worked great using my AT&T sim.. After an update through iTunes to iOS 5.0.1 and firmware 05.16.05 it became unusable unless I'm connected to wi-fi, no service with AT&T. No phone service. I tried to update to iPad firmware v 06.15 as a fix (don't care about loosing GPS) using redsn0w_win_0.910b.3 and following the instructions to un-click install Cydia and only click install iPad firmware (I already have Cydia installed). Every time it goes all the way through and then says "not eligible for this upgrade a fix is coming soon" error message. Where did the phone come from, it came from my works lost and found. After 30 days in lost and found, items get donated to the local disabled charity but we get first dibs at 80% of what they will ask for it. It had a sim in it when I got it, (no service) and tried to find contacts to find the owner, but it was a brick when I got it. Put the sim into my work Blackberry and it bricked up also, (AT&T said it was a bricked sim, shut off, but wouldn't give me a name or number for the owner). I have all the info I think I need to get it to work but AT&T an Apple are of no help. Any help would be appreciated. Here is what the phones exact specs are. Version 5.0.1, Firmware 05.16.05. Carrier "not available", Model MC131NF. I have the S/N, IMEI and the ICCID but won't post that here.
Thanks Reece for pointing that out for others with the same question. After searching blogs and posts, I know this is not a VPN problem but a Base Band problem. My S/N is over 45 so I can't downgrade the base band, and my only option is to upgrade to the iPad base band 06.15 as far as I have found. The thing is when using redsn0w_win_0.910b.3 and selecting only install iPad firmware, it can't install the iPad base band. I think the phone is euro (maybe French) but that should not be a problem because it had to be bricked over the air after the owner lost it and it had an AT&T sim in it (the same as my carrier). I guess what I need is a place where I can download the 06.15 iPad base band and install it unteathered because iTunes always restores to V 5.0.1 and FW 05.16.05. Like I said the phone is jail-broken and unlocked, and works in every way using wi-fi, but I get no AT&T service. I have even tried restoring using my back up of my 3G iOS and firmware to no joy. Any help or d
