Default Bypass "slide for emergency" on iPhone to be jailbroken?

This may be a little long but please help me out here please. I have a used iPhone 2G running 3.1.3. I wanna jailbreak it so I won't have to buy the data plan. But to be jailbroken I have to be on the springboard. Right now I'm stuck at "slide for emergency" lockscreen and I can't get passes that. iTunes will recognize it and take me to the activation process but that leads me to the mandatory data plan. How can I bypass the "slide for emergency" screen to get to the springboard? Also it won't let me put it in DFU mode.
