So I foolishly left my Ipod on the dasboard ( inside of the car) and the sun overheated it. Unfortunately, I am no longer getting sound from the Ipod, but it works fine otherwise.
Below are steps I already performed in hopes to correct the issue: (1) Cool it down. (2) Restored its original settings. (3) Re-format the OS. One more thing needs to be done. I might need to send the Ipod to sign language school :-) Any other tips? |

Your circuits inside it might be totally fried or melted. It can get really hot inside of cars in the summer, especially if you don't have the windows down. It sounds to me like the component that works with audio is ruined or something. You may just have to get a whole new iPod.

I don't think there is anymore you can do, as you cleared it out the problem is no longer a software one but a physical one. The iPod does not take heat well as its sealed dead tight, nothing to help disperse heat. if everything else like the click wheel or the hard drive is fine then it's the headphone port. The part of the mother board that holds the headphone jack is very flimsy, most likely the thing that connects it to the motherboard is damaged. Not much you can do, if you are under warranty then return it but don't say anything about damaging it, the customer service always finds a way to blame you and charge extra for the fix. But take note that they will wipe EVERYTHING of your iPod and will give a brand new one back. If you are tech handy you could buy spare parts and fix it yourself : http://www.pdasmart.com/ipodpartscenter.htm
the iPod electrics are very simple its just getting the thing open. Good Luck |
