Default Ipod 4th Generation Repair Help?

I recently came upon an old ipod I had it was a 20 gb 4th Generation U2 Special Edition ipod. I knew it wasn't working but I thought it would be an interesting fix.

I first realized the unit did not power so I replaced the battery. Now when I plug it in to charge the cable is being recognized but the battery is not getting charged properly. Also when I plug it into the computer the cable is somewhat being recognized because the ipod is trying to sync and displaying cycles between "Do not disconnect" or "Ready to Play." I am not sure what part this could be traced to that would prevent the battery from being charged or it not to be recognized by the computer. Thank you in advance.
