Default Mac Video Format Problem...Audio is not there (iMovie)...help?

Okay, I have compiled a video using Vegas Movie Studio on my Windows PC and converted it into a .mov quicktime file (using .aac audio codec). I want to play it on the morning announcements at school, but they only have a MacBook in the studio. The video can only be broadcast using iMovie (which I despise)...when I imported the movie into iMovie, the video showed up fine, but the audio was just not there...it played okay in quicktime player...what's wrong...does iMovie not read .aac audio files or something?

What do you suggest I do?
Should I convert that movie into an audio file as well and synchronize it with the no-audio video in iMovie? If so, what audio format should I convert it to? mp? m4a? what is the best audio format for iMovie that will play flawlessly...Please help
correction: instead of "mp?", I meant "mp3?"

can iMovie play mp3s?!
