Default video transfer from mac to windows?

me and some buddies made a video for spanish class. my friend put it on his mac computer. he sent it to me over AIM and i can play it using itunes. however, i am trying to edit the movie in windows movie maker. i keep getting a error mssg that says windows media does not support the file type. i tried opening the file with windows media instead of itunes and i get the same error mssg. can someone plz tell me if there is a way to convert the file so i can edit my homemade movie?

Have your buddy send you the file as a DIVX file instead of a MOV file. He can do that by following the instructions here:

http://www.divx.com/divx/mac/tutorials/?tutorial=iMovie+Export

You'll need to download the DIVX package from DIVX to make sure WMM can edit it:
