you aren't going to destroy your computer. i don't know if you are going to use Boot Camp, or whether you will buy Parallels or VMware Fusion. the only thing i will warn you about (from experience) is that your computer will begin to overheat while using windows. my fans go nuts every time i run windows using Boot Camp. i have Parallels and VMware as well, but i prefer using Boot Camp. i have a unibody macbook pro--so you might want to do some research on macrumors' forums. you can always try it out. it's fairly easy to delete the windows partition (given you used Boot Camp). if you use VMware or Parallels, you'll have to get a 3rd party uninstaller.

there are no risks, though. it depends on what computer you have. if your computer is equipped with Boot Camp, then your recovery disks will have the proper drivers for use with Windows XP.
